Sutasoma

The depiction of Kakawin Sutasoma in the form of a Wayang Beber (scroll painting) on paper stands at 1,5 meters in height and extends between 4 to 10 meters in length in each chapter. Crafted meticulously with toothpicks and bamboo needles, specifically crafted by Handojo Simodihardjo himself, along with Chinese ink on paper technique, this masterpiece has been meticulously painted. Utilizing low viscosity ink and layered repeatedly to achieve stunning gradations and shapes, this project has been underway since 2010 and now spans approximately 35 meters in length. Despite its considerable progress, the artwork remains a work in progress. Handojo Simodihardjo's dedication to this project stems from his profound aspirations to rekindle the essence of Nusantara and national cultural art, while also aiming to preserve the fading tradition of Wayang Beber.
